MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

I. Classes of Members

The membership of the Endoscopic Ear Surgery Study Group shall consist of active and trainee members.

  1. Active membership shall be maintained through the calendar year provided that a member is engaged in the practice of otology. Active members shall be eligible to hold office, endorse candidates, and vote.
  2. Trainee membership shall be those who are still in training, such as residency and fellowship. Trainee members are not eligible to hold office, endorse candidates, or vote.

II. Establishment of Membership

  1. Eligibility. Any member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery or equivalent society with special interest in the problems connected with endoscopic ear surgery and/or who is actively engaged in clinical or laboratory research in this field shall be eligible for membership.
  2. Nomination and Election to Membership
    1. Nomination of a Candidate for active membership must be made and seconded by active members. The application must be submitted in the form of a written letter from the Candidate noting the Nominator, Secondary nominator, and explaining the Candidate’s relevant qualifications and interest. Contributions to endoscopic ear surgery shall be regarded as a favorable qualification. No members of the Executive Committee may act as Nominator or Secondary nominator.
    2. The letter from the proposed Candidate shall be submitted to the Secretary-Treasurer of the Endoscopic Ear Surgery Study Group. The Secretary-Treasurer shall then present the names and credentials of each candidate to the Executive Committee at their next regular annual meeting.
    3. The Executive Committee, acting as a Credentials Committee under the Chairmanship of the President, shall investigate the qualifications of each candidate.
    4. The successful Candidates shall be notified by the Secretary-Treasurer and invited to attend the next annual meeting.

III. Severance of Membership

Membership in the Endoscopic Ear Surgery Study Group may be revoked (terminated) for one or more of the following causes:

  1. Failure to attend three consecutive annual meetings without adequate reason.
  2. Unethical, immoral, or dishonorable conduct.
  3. Failure to pay dues (if dues are collected) for two consecutive years without adequate reason.


Before revocation of membership, the circumstances shall be considered by the Executive Committee. The member(s) involved shall be given an opportunity for a hearing before the Committee.


Revocation of membership shall be by the majority vote at the annual meeting.
